What’s up, Boujee Bosses, we are back with more tips! Today is all about World Humanitarian Day, which is coming up next Wednesday (August 19th). This is an international holiday solely dedicated to humanitarian service workers and those that have lost their lives for a selfless cause. With everything that has transpired so far in 2020, World Humanitarian Day seems to hold an even more special meaning. So, let’s jump right into different ways you can contribute!
Treat an Essential Worker a to a Meal
This pandemic is still a huge part in our lives, and our essential workers remain on the frontlines not only saving the lives of others but risking their own to treat this deadly virus. Food is the way to everyone’s hearts, so a nice lunch or dinner would go a long way, especially if you’re on a budget. Obviously you will most likely not be able to sit down with them in a restaurant, but you could send a them a to-go plate from their favorite restaurant or even send a homemade meal (only if you can cook, though…)!
Donate to a Black Lives Matter Bail Fund
The Black Lives Matter movement is in full force (as it should be), and as we’ve all seen, there are a lot of senseless arrests for even the most peaceful advocates. If you’re passionate about real change, but don’t know how exactly you can contribute, this is a perfect place to start. Here’s a list of bail funds you can donate to.
Send a Military Personnel a Package
Just because we may not be in any active wars, doesn’t mean that our armed forces aren’t still risking their lives to protect us in a variety of other ways. Sending a package to a loved military personnel will be sure to lift their spirits and keep them encouraged while they fight for our freedom.
Volunteer with a Nonprofit
You know you got a whole section of canned goods that have been sitting in your cabinet untouched since you bought them. Go take them to the food bank or go work in a soup kitchen. If you’re going through it right now, can you imagine how the less fortunate feel?? Of course, research the allotted guidelines for each organization to remain safe but get out there!
Contribute aid to a Region Recovering from War/Natural Disaster
This was the initial purpose for World Humanitarian Day, so of course I had to include it in this list. Just because there haven’t been any huge natural disasters doesn’t mean you can’t aid in those still recovering from previous occurrences. Here is a list of disaster relief funds to help you get started. There are also victims who are in active war areas and are really suffering, so here is another list of war relief funds to choose from!
I hope this list was helpful! Let me know how you plan to give back on World Humanitarian Day 2020 in the comments below and on our social media pages!
