What’s up Boujee Bosses, we are back with more tips! Today is PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) Awareness Day, so I thought it would be very fitting to shine a light with #TMP being a self-development brand. 2020 has been a traumatic year for all of us with this worldwide pandemic and the #BlackLivesMatter uprising. We’ve had to cancel weddings, baby showers, graduation ceremonies and other important events. We’ve had to isolate from our loved ones in the time we needed them most. We’ve lost more people of color to white supremacy and the country is on the brink of another civil war. So many traumatic things have been taking place and everyone is getting overwhelmed, whether you want to admit it or not. We know that PTSD should definitely be treated with professional help and you can also talk to a trusted loved one if you can’t access a therapist. However, if you don’t have access to either one, self-care is a great way to keep yourself sane. It is not a replacement for professional help, but I know that isn’t a realistic resource for most right now, so I’ve compiled a list of things you can do right now to hold you over for the time being. Let’s jump right in!
1. Log off Your Social Media
First things first, you need to unplug. There are a lot of unrealistic expectations on social media to be on activism mode 24/7 and even how you “should” be contributing, which can be draining. We are all human and no one can operate at 100% all the time, we need time to re-charge. So, log off and get ready for a night of relaxation!
2. Do an Extended Skincare Routine
My usual skincare routine consists of washing my face with soap and a rag, so using actual skincare products is a real luxury for me. Go ahead and get your serums and moisturizers together, sis (I’ll be using my Derma E). There’s nothing like a clean, open face to relax you. And make sure to put on a face mask afterwards as you transition to the next part of your Routine
3. Take a Bubble Bath with a Soothing Playlist
I’m almost embarrassed to say that I can count the number of baths I’ve taken within the last 5 years on one hand. Only two come to mind, y’all. No Bueno. I either felt like I didn’t have the time for anything other than a shower or I didn’t have a tub to take a bath in (during college). But bubble baths are so essential y’all, get that warm water going with a nice playlist. My preference is RnB and Soul, but whatever floats your boat, it’s all about you!
4. Order Your Favorite Takeout Meal
As you’re drying off and removing your face mask, go ahead and hit up your favorite spot to order a meal (or two) to pig out on! Pizza, Chinese, Southern Comfort, whatever your rumbling stomach desires, call it up. We are foodies over this way!
5. Stream Some Light-hearted Shows/Movies
You’re all clean and cozy with your pajamas, you’ve got your steaming hot food, and you need some entertainment! Turning on Netflix, Hulu, or Disney+ is one of my favorite ways to unwind when I’m stressed. I would advise you watch a comedy or cartoon, basically anything that isn’t too serious because you’re trying to get away from all of that. Keep it cute and turn on that Scooby Doo, sis. You need to laugh.
I hope that this helps some of you guys! It’s a tough time, but we will get through it together, Boujee Bosses. And if things seem to be too much to bear, PLEASE utilize these hotlines listed below!
