Fitness Update #1

I’m hungry.

Like, I bought all the vegetables, and the fish, and the chicken, and the fruit, and the eggs, and the Cheerios (that I don’t even add sugar to), and I sit here in my room, HUNGRY.

PAUSE: I should also note that I switched from the Keto diet almost immediately when researching for shopping because it was just a little too intense for my amateur taste.

Most of the food I listed above is allowed in the keto diet, so I guess I didn’t abandon it completely, but there were some restrictions that I just knew wouldn’t last for me this early on.

Maybe it’s because I’m used to having some kind of bread and fried food every day, but this struggle is something serious.

I’ve had so many cheat meals already, it’s actually very sad.

And I haven’t even been by the gym yet.

Ironically, this is where I’ll include my first tip;

DO NOT PLAN A MAJOR LIFESTYLE CHANGE DURING A MOVE!

This was the worst thing I could have done, knowing I was going to be hitting the ground running as soon as I got back to campus.

Just to update you guys so we’re all on the same page, I am currently taking 18 credit hours this semester, I’m in 3 student organizations (one of which I’m president of), and I have 2 jobs.

Add in the other unplanned stressors of life and watch as my plate overflows.

I should have allotted myself some time to adjust to this crazy lifestyle, before trying to add in this intense diet/workout plan.

Because as a result of my current packed schedule, I’m too burnt out to meal prep or go to the gym.

And since I only have things that I have to cook in my apartment, ya know what that means?

I order junk food!

Which also means the numbers in my bank account go down, unfortunately.

It’s just a mess, smh.

The good thing about this is I hate for my bank account to get below a certain number, and I’ve reached that limit.

So, guess who’s cooking this week? THIS CHEAP GIRL!

I’ve mainly been eating brown rice and some kind of meat, but I’m going to try cooking enough brown rice, corn, and baked tilapia to last me a few days.

Another good thing is I’ve drunk all the fruit juice in my room, so now I only have water.

And when I say, I never drink water unless I have to, it’s not an exaggeration.

But now, I kinda have to. Because I’m cheap and not buying anything else to drink until I get paid, and my bank account numbers go back up.

As far as working out goes, this is a pretty jam-packed week, with having an organization event to go to every night after classes and work, so I’ve planned my first workout of the year for Saturday morning.

This was one of my main workout times previously because I was usually free, and it made me feel energized throughout the day.

I still haven’t figured out what other weekdays will work for my routine yet (possibly Tuesday’s and Thursday’s because I don’t usually work those days), but it’s a start.

As a planner, this has already been a humbling experience because I’ve learned how to be realistic when starting on certain goals.

Yes, you should set crazy, unrealistic goals that don’t make sense, but that’s long-term.

In the beginning, you have to think short-term.

Especially for more quantitative goals like dieting and working out, don’t try to start with tasks above your skillset.

It’s okay to start small, and gradually build.

So, that’s what I’m gonna do.

I’m not cooking enough meals to last a week, just a few days.

I’m not going to sprint in my workout (Ha!) and try out every intense exercise, I’m going to start with walking and the bicycle machine that I like.

If I’m feeling fancy, I may even do a few sit-ups and push-ups.

And that may not be the “correct’ way to start a fitness journey according to the health gurus out there, but they won’t be in the gym with me.

I already feel better about this journey then I did 3 weeks ago, because I’ve finally got somewhat of a grasp of what health and fitness looks like for me, and it’s all about pacing and patience.

I’m actually looking forward to working out this weekend, and I can’t wait to show you guys the progress I’ve made in the next update.

In the meantime, let me know about your fitness journeys and/or any tips you have for me in the comments below and on our social media pages! I look forward to hearing from you!
